(Ezekiel 18:6) And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman, (Romans 14:2) For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.~ I read this verse in Ezekiel last night, never eating anything sacrificed to idols on the mountain! I believe this verse will surely make many people stumble! And everyone must ask: The Bible is really contradictory! It is clear that the Old Testament cannot eat things sacrificed to idols, so why is it allowed to eat in the New Testament? Why does Paul say: You can eat any food? Is the Bible Really the Word of God? Why does God contradict his own words?
There is no contradiction in the Bible! But ordinary pastors will tell you: people in the Old Testament were relatively simple, so God’s regulations were stricter, the New Testament environment was complicated, and Jesus gave us grace, so we can eat a lot of food, isn’t it? Of course not! There is never a double standard between the Old Testament and New Testament! Why did Moses prescribe and in Leviticus a lot of clean and unclean food? We must know: "Food" is used to satisfy the stomach, and food is not only thing in our life! And why is the Old Testament so strict about food? Because there was no entertainment in the Old Testament, people made food the most important thing in life! That's what we say: food is heaven! With "food", you can control people! Just like Joseph helped Pharaoh to control people through a famine! And the New Testament Jesus has always emphasized: people do not live by food, but by the Word of God! This is where the Old Testament and New Testament differ!
People in the Old Testament were still in the unevolved stage, and people lived on real "food". And in the New Testament stage people are already making progress, and Jesus wants to help us live by "the Word of God"! Therefore, in the Old Testament we eat "grain", and those who eat grain will sin just like Eve. Therefore, many dietary regulations must be stipulated! In the New Testament era, we were eating "spiritual food"! He who eats spiritual food eats "faith", which is why Paul said, "Eat all things!" You can even eat food that has been worshipped to idols! As I used to give an example: If there is a great famine and rich people donate food for their idolatry, what do you eat? Still don't eat it? Don't eat, starve to death! does it worth? Starvation and thirst are the most painful things in life! Therefore, we can't let food stumble us, and we can't kill ourselves because of lack of confidence! If you don’t eat idol-worshiping food, it means you are a person of little faith, and you are afraid of being tempted by food to worship idols! There are many people who eat idolatry and follow idols! Why? Because there are so many delicious food to worship idols, why not follow idols?
So, why does the Old Testament say that idolatry cannot be eaten "on the mountain"? We must read the Bible with great attention to detail! Why are sacrifices eaten on the mountain? Why not eat at a banquet? Because eating sacrifices on the mountain means that you follow these people up the mountain to worship idols. What does this mean? You are worshipping idols at all! That is, after worshipping idols, directly divide the sacrifices to eat! So, does the Bible say: Don't eat idolatrous sacrifices? What the Old Testament is really trying to convey is this: we cannot follow idolaters, worship idols together, and share sacrifices on the mountain! If there is a famine and the rich have food, these rich people worship the devil, ask: Can we not eat these foods? Another question: If the flour has been worshipped, can the bread made from the flour be eaten? If the flour has been worshipped, it stands to reason that the bread cannot be eaten! How many of us have eaten idolatrous sacrifices? Therefore, the Bible really cannot be interpreted literally, the Bible must be interpreted according to God's will!
If we have faith from God, we know: we can eat or we can not eat! Because we can live with or without eating, because we live by the Word and promises of God! "Eating" means eating for others to see! Let the family see that we will not be tempted to worship idols just because we have food! "Eating idolatry" is definitely not for survival, because we don't need idolatry to survive! Eating is telling the world: we will not follow idols because of food! We often get the point wrong! People often sin because of: appetite, material desire, wealth, but we eat food sacrificed to idols not for sin, but for the world to see our faith! In God's hands, no Christian will starve to death! Christians who will starve to death have no faith, because without faith there is no spiritual food, and they will die of starvation and thirst! And "starvation and thirst" is the best way for the devil to control people! We are often afraid of "starving and thirst" and follow the devil to do evil!
